Mystery Readers Journal

The new issue of Mystery Readers Journal focuses on “Cross-Genre Mysteries”—and I was so excited when the call for submissions came out because I’m currently teaching (for the third time!) a course titled “Crossing Genres” at George Mason University.

Here’s the opening to my essay:

In Spring 2016, I debuted my course “Crossing Genres” as a Special Topics in Creative Writing class at George Mason University—at that time a course for both graduate students and upper-level undergraduates. This semester—Fall 2026—marks the third time I’ve taught the course, and it’s been fascinating to me to see how the class has evolved over that decade, reflecting my own broadening engagement with the subject. Along with my students, I’ve been learning too—widening my own perspectives.
