I was honored when Martin Edwards invited me to contribute a short guest post to his blog “Do You Write Under Your Own Name?”—and grateful for his patience when my submission proved too long and unwieldy and needed to be broken into two parts.
Those posts appeared this week, links below, and I was then more than honored by Martin’s words, comparing my short stories to the work of the great Stanley Ellin, one of my own role models and inspirations.
The two-part essay discusses the benefits of writing long to write short and offers some tactics for how writers of short fiction might apply this approach themselves.
Hope you enjoy—and thanks again to Martin Edwards, a fine friend and a writer I admire so tremendously, for hosting me.
