News: Derringer Nomination

With apologies for having consecutive blog posts about my own personal news, I’m very pleased that my story “Rearview Mirror,” originally published in Ellery Queen’s Mystery Magazine‘s March/April 2010 issue, has been nominated for a Derringer Award by the Short Mystery Fiction Society. My story is a contender in the Novelette category, amidst a very distinguished bunch (including Doug Allyn, who thrilled me when he wrote me out of the blue with his own admiration for the story — a letter that still has a prominent place above my desk a year later). I’m also pleased that a fellow member of my local Mystery Writers of America chapter, B.K. Stevens, has received a nomination in the Long Story category. Good company all around!
